Tried of VFA issues on the Creality K1 printers?
Want a solution to remove VFA but not impact build volume?
Also want a solution which means you don't need to root your machine?
Then look no further.
I got my Creality K1 Max a few month ago and I love it, but I was disappointed with the print quality on vertical faces.
I looked around the internet to see what the options were but all the solutions I found looked expensive, required modifications to the printers firmware and generally came at a loss of build volume, so I decided to do something about it.
My goals were simple:
- Remove common VFA fault
- Remove ghosting
- Make an X rail upgrade kit that works on rooted or non-rooted machines
- No impact to X x Y print area dimensions
- Make it look close to stock and in keeping with the Creality design and less like an afterthought
- No impact to start print scripts for nozzle clean/wipe
- Make gantry lighter than stock!
- Make XY block pulleys accessible so that if a bearing fails a full strip down is not required
The design is complete and ALL goals were met!
Upgrade uses a MGN9H rail rather than a MGN12H as per other upgrade kits to save weight but is reinforced by a carbon box section for additional stiffness. This has resulted in a reduction in gantry weight by 170g vs the stock Creality design which has hugely helped print quality.
I have spent many months working on this and perfecting it. The results can be seen for yourself in the photos attached.
What you will get:
- All printed part files to print the upgrade
- Full list of hardware needed and links to where to buy
- 36 Page instruction booklet for printed part assembly and full install.

** UPDATE 03.02.25 **
There are however only two drawbacks:
It does not work with the Creality LiDar camera as it is not possible to mount the camera in the required position due to the linear rail. For me this was not much of a problem as I had stopped using and removed the LiDar camera months beforehand. However, if you are interested in this model / upgrade but use your LiDar camera, Im sorry, this is not for you.
I have been made aware that Creality have changed their hotend heatsink design. If you have the latest unicorn nozzle and heatsink with the CURVED FINS on the back, below the extruder, then then you will need to replace the heatsink with the non curved version or the black and silver version. This non-curved version is available on aliexpress for approx 5USD.
Alternativly you can trim down the curved version.
NOTE - This only effects the latest machines with the unicorn nozzle and the NEW ALL SILVER heatsink.
See photos above for compatibility chart.
