3D model description

After many iterations I finally created this catalogue of parts for building an RC chassis. The intention was to come up with a modular design that allowed the builder to choose the type of vehicle and then print the modules required.

So for instance a simple 4x4 chassis will required the motor/gearbox module, 2x differential modules, and a steering module. Then it is a case of choosing accessories such as body brackets to attach the body shell.

Assembling a gearbox or differential might be a little daunting so I have created some YouTube videos which should be linked in the settings section. These show you step by step how the modules are assembled.

Overall, the chassis will take some punishment but it won't be as strong as an off-the-shelf model. The beauty of this however is any parts can be replaced at the press of a button and won't take days to deliver!

3D printing settings

Notes
β€’ Accuracy is important.
β€’ Print orange items with s in the orientation shown.
β€’ Print green items without s.
β€’ See PNG images for colour codes.

These are my preferences and are only guideline:-
β€’ Material : PLA 1.75mm
β€’ Print Head : 220 degs C
β€’ Print Hot Bed : 50 degs C
β€’ Print Cold Bed : Elmers Purple Glue
β€’ Nozzle Size : 0.40mm
β€’ Layer Height : 0.20mm
β€’ Infill 50%

STL File Naming Convention
[Section Name][Item Name][Code]
Codes are:-
β€’ s1,s2,etc - numbers of screws to fasten
β€’ x1,x2 – number required for assembly (see below)
β€’ pj - contains printed t (see below)
β€’ pws - print with (see PNG for orientation)

To help with printing the correct quantities there are complete plates ready to print. Also provided are the individual components. The files code contain the number required for printed the plates
or individual parts.
