3D model description

update - 4.04 3mf has new tilt unit system
4.04c now has jigs to help with motor/tilt setup
4.04d now has tilt mount for standard size servo
4.04e more ing pins between fuselage 2-3 (use bits of filament)
4.04f added rear motor mount.
4.04g fixed no cable hole for aileron servo.
new curved fin added - separate 3mf
4.04h fixed cutout for aileron horn and modified tilt motor bracket

*NOTE*
All the required files are in the 4.XXX 3mf file.
All the zip and STLs are now legacy and are not ed or recommended but will be left for a while.

This includes 2 separate design methods to choose from. The original aircraft is designed using the ‘direct design’ method but due to requests I have also ed a new design with conventional construction which is suitable for LW filament but standard filament is also ok. I recommend building this one. Files are labeled mk4.

The flight logs confirm this can loiter at 6.5A draw (at 16m/s) but can fast cruise at 27m/s

3D printing settings

Below is info for the original version. All info for the new mk4 should be in the 3mf file.

As explained above, there is a very small gap (0.02mm mostly) between the internals and the skin. The slicer will probably try to ‘heal’ this gap and the parts together. If you have an excellent printer or don’t mind seams on the surface you can print like this however I suggest the following. In OrcaSlicer (and probably others), set the Quality/Precision/Slice Gap closing radius to 0.001mm.
Experiment around this if you like. The Resolution may also have to be adjusted. Strength/Walls/Detect thin walls ON. Use normal walls. The skin and internals are about 0.5mm thick so the extruder (with 0.4 nozzle) will treat them as single walls. You can set the walls to 2-3 and infill as required as there are only a few ‘solid’ parts in each part. Likewise I suggest 3 top and 2-3 bottom layers.
NEW SOLID METHOD
Due to request I have now included the model of conventional 3d plane type construction which can be used with (or without) LW filament. It was a 'button' to push down to lock wing and electrical connection via a DB9 connector.
Use single wall 3% gyroid infill. For the motor tube I suggest a modifier area of 2 wall 10% infill.
