Hello,
At one time or another, we're all drawn to large printers ... For my part, the Wanhao Duplicator D9 500 (the colt brothers) was my choice!
Printer at 800 euros it's not expensive but there are inevitably things that aren't clear ...
Let's start with the good stuff:
robust structure
Quality engines
motherboard OK
Weak points:
The heating mat actually measures 300x300 mm under the building plate, so it's not possible to go higher than 60Β° (I'll skip the details).
The extruder block is very mediocre (even on the new models) I don't understand what the wanhao engineers had in mind!!!! Why not use things that work? E3DV6 or MK8 direct drive all metal or Teflon tube works great!!!! But theirs really sucks ... I'm not the only one who thinks that, I assure you ...
So I put a kit from Triangle LAB with an E3D V6 direct drive (BMG extruder) full metal (very good store at Aliexpress, with really good quality stuff) it became my reference when I have to upgrade one of my machines ...
- The clamping system for the platen wheels (Y axis) and Z axis is mediocre too!
Look at your printer from above and you'll see that once the castors are adjusted they end up crooked (not perpendicular/parallel to the 40x40 mm square tube) So these will wear out very quickly ...
That's why I decided to modify my printer so that I could use it in good conditions, because all my parts weren't really pretty ...
Once again I'm not the only one, just look at the videos of the foal brothers, all the parts they make with this printer are mediocre ... First layer problems, extrusion problems, layers sticking together badly ect ect ...
Except that they remain a little discreet about the problem ... :)
Mind you, I'm not trying to dismantle Wanhao by "spitting in the soup", this printer has problems and I'm saying so! that's all! For the price and once modified you'll have a great machine, capable of making a real large format, but count on about β¬400 to modify and time because you'll have to apply yourself to assemble everything well!!!!
I think I've done everything I can to make these modifications as well as possible. If you're missing something, don't hesitate to me, I'll be happy to answer ...

A few details:
If you place the Y end stop correctly, you won't have to modify the firmware for BL touch movements, but you will have to reverse the direction of the X axis (very important and essential)!!!!
For the heating mat, which is now controlled by an external box, don't worry, just cut the existing 24 V wires and insulate them, keep the original temperature sensor from the tray and reattach it to the underside of the new tray (be careful where you put it, as thermol heating mats heat up super fast and hard!!!! You can't see it on the photos, but I put it between the zflex and the aluminum plate!
VERY IMPORTANT: IN SIMPLIFY 3D SET THE BED TEMPERATURE TO 0Β°.
Otherwise you'll get an error!
If you want to print PETG, ABS OR NYLON make a box !!!
You have the parts in STL format and fusion 360 if you want to modify them!
In case of modification, please share these modifications ....
IMPORTANT: ALSO MODIFY DIRECTLY ON THE MACHINE SCREEN THE "MOTORS SETTING" OF THE EXTRUDER !!!! (because of the BMG) value around 400 ... I think I'm at 409! If you don't know how to do it, there are some very clear videos on You tube to learn how to calculate the speed of the extrusion motor ....
