Sovol SV06 PSU Housing with Tobsun Buck Converter
This entire page is a 4 minute read.
This model is for advanced s only. See Warning
at the end of this page.
The links to Amazon and Aliexpress are just examples. They are not necessarily the correct parts.
What Is Purpose of This Model?
This model replaces the manufacturer's housing for the power supply unit (PSU) of the Sovol SV06, and it allows you to house a Tobsun DC to DC buck converter. This means that you can reduce the number of cables running to your 3D printer, that is, you no longer need a separate cable to power your OctoPrint
or Klipper
host device.
Bill of Materials
- 2 x M3 x 8mm countersunk bolts.
- Purpose: These are to mount the PSU switch.
- Longer bolts should also work.
- In case you don't have countersunk bolts, any other kind of M3 bolts will work, though won't be flush with with the PSU switch front face.
- 2 x M3 x 5mm SHCS or BHCS.
- Purpose: These are to mount the Tobsun.
- Longer bolts will work, however, they will protrude from under the PSU housing.
- 2 x M3 x D4.0 x L5.0mm Heatset Inserts
- Purpose: These are to mount the PSU switch.
- 2 x M3 x D4.6 x L3.0mm Heatset Inserts
- Purpose: These are to mount the Tobsun.
- Longer inserts will work, however, they will protrude from under the PSU housing.
- 1 x Tobsun 12V/24V to 5V 10A DC to DC Converter
- 1 x USB Micro/Mini/C Pigtail Power Cable
- Cables: 2 x AWG-10
- Purpose: These cables connect the PSU to the Tobsun.
- Length: 15 cm to 20 cm
- 2 x M4 Washers
- Purpose: Used when attaching the PSU to the housing.
- When you handle the PSU, you will notice that the PSU outer shell is a bit flimsy. To make sure that all s are able to use this model without having to modify the printed part, I expanded the mounting holes (see image
Bill of materials-3
).
Print Settings
ποΈ This model was a 3h 59m print for me.
- I printed mine at 0.22mm layer height, but layer heights between 0.2mm to 0.3mm should be fine, inclusive.
- PETG/ABS recommended, but PLA+ should be fine as well
- 5 top/bottom layers
- 4 perimeters/walls
- infill percentage: 40% minimum
- 100% infill will use less than 2 meters extra filament (less than 6 grams) for the same print time
- infill type: Grid, Gyroid, Honeycomb, Triangle or Cubic
s
You need to print with s (see image). The s add about 4 extra minute to your print, they are very minor.
This part also contains break away s for easy printing (see image).
Optional Print Profiles For PrusaSlicer/SuperSlicer (Klipper Based)
If you need good print settings for your printer, find them here: https://github.com/bassamanator/Sovol-SV06-firmware/tree/master/misc. To print this model, you want to use the PIF
settings.
Before you print this model, make sure you get accustomed to these print settings, that is, spend a few days using these settings.
Wiring Instructions
Wiring the parts together is very easy, however, I am purposefully not providing wiring instructions to prevent beginners from using this model. See Warning
