3D model description
See improved version: https://cults3d.sitegames.net/en/3d-model/tool/k1-max-lid-extension-with-sliding-lid-vent-covers
Allows lid to slide open & close. Raises lid 23mm giving the filament tube clearance. Four vent openings with adjustable covers. Fits in place around existing top rim. All parts are 3D printed, no bolts or drilling needed.
The top of the printer is square so the extension can be installed in different orientations to allow lid to slide left/right/front/rear.
The print is 5 frame edges, 4 vent covers, 3 shorter pins, and 1 longer pin.
3D printing settings
for 0.40mm nozzle I suggest
2+ walls
0.20 to 0.30 layer height
0.40 outer wall width, 0.45 inner wall + top & bottom, skin and infill at your preference
Align the frame parts standing on their side, so the vent edge touches the build plate. s are needed.
To assemble:
1) First insert the vent covers into the frame edge parts, slight sanding or scalping maybe necessary depending on how clean your print is.
2) Helpful to print pins on a raft to lessen elephant foot distortion.
Pins are designed to slide across the seams midway and can slide fully either direction, use one pin per seam. With the exception of the back smaller middle frame both of it seams will be covered by the longer rear pin. Make sure to slide the pins fully into the tracks so they do not interfere with the seams as edges are installed.
3) Install the front two frame edges to the top of the printer first, followed by the back left & right frame edges, and lastly the center rear small frame edge.
4) Slide the pins across the seams to help keep them in place.
5) Position the glass so the handle is to the front of the printer.
Temporarily remove the handle from the glass lid as the screw will not want to slide over the frame. Slide glass into the track from the rear.
6) Re-install the handle on the glass. The handle should be to the front, and will work as a safety catch.
Helpful hint if slicing with Creality_Print. I find it helpful to change the default Z offset between nozzle and print layer. For me this is critical for printing PETG but also helpful with PLA etc.
Steps on how to change G-code Offset(z) setting:
-open profile edit (print settings)
-at the top make sure the "Advanced" toggle is on
- left click on the "Experimental" tab
- toggle on check box next to "Enable Gcode Offset"
- at time I write this Creality_Print has several issues, you may not yet see the next setting option appear, to see it click on another tab for example "Material" then return to the "Experimental" tab
- now change "Gcode offset(z)" from the current default of -0.05 to 0.00 (this is setting I find that works well for my printer)
- then click save at the bottom
Hope you enjoy the print :)
