This add-on for the GEN2 Table Top Kit V2 - STANDARD adds the outstanding Gridfinity system design by Zack Freedman to the top surface of the kit. With this iteration of the design the grids are held in place by installing Grid Clamps near the front and back of the cover. The design allows you to slide the Gridfinity grids up against one another creating a seamless and continuous layout without limits. Whether you have a single drawer width GEN2 table top kit or 20 drawer width, this system has you covered (no pun intended 🤣)
If your not familiar with the GEN2 system check out the attached videos for a quick walkthrough.
HARDWARE (d links to this project)
• Filament - Black PETG (My go to for the drawer bodies)
• Screwdriver/Hex-Wrench
• Magnets for Gridfinity (6x2mm) - I prefer these in 300 count
• M3 nuts and screws: M3x8 & M3x12(I prefer this kit)
INSTRUCTIONS
* PDF for visual instructions
Note: In this example I'm installing the Gridfinity Expansion on a Table Top Kit V2 that has a single and double cover on top (totaling 3 units wide), therefore I will use the “2x4 Gridfinity - Single” and the "4x4 Gridfinity - Double" to cover the entire surface.
• On the GEN2 Table Top Kit V2 remove the “Cover - Upper” pieces and install an M3 nut in the hex slot that when installed is closest to the front of the table top system. Pull the nut in place using a longer M3 screw and then remove the screw.
• Slide the “Cover - Upper” parts back into position. Prep the Grid Clamps but inserting an M3 screw in them. clamps near the front of the system will use an M3x8 screw while the clamps near the back use an M3x12 screw. (These will be used to hold the Gridfinity grid in place)
• Lay a Gridfinity grid on the surface of the Table Top Kit V2 cover, orient it so that the sides with a small lip face the front and back of the kit. Install the clamps with the M3x8 screws near the front and the clamps with theM3x12 screws towards the back. (Leave them just slightly loose for now)
• For installing additional Gridfinity grids follow the same steps from earlier but slide it tight up against the earlier grid, (You might need to adjust the rails slightly in this step, there should be a slight amount of wiggle room to align the grids seamlessly). After everything is aligned and positioned where you want tighten down the clamps to lock the grids in place.
• And that's it! The clamps allow you a ton of freedom to position the grids exactly where you want, and if you decide to add more to your Table Top Kit V2, you can simply expand the Gridfinity grids by using this installation method.
