Sharing and ing on Cults3D guarantees that designs remain in makers community hands! And not in the hands of the 3D printing or software giants who own the competing platforms and exploit the designs for their own commercial interests.
Cults3D is an independent, self-financed site that is not able to any investor or brand. Almost all of the siteβs revenues are paid back to the platformβs makers. The content published on the site serves only the interests of its authors and not those of 3D printer brands who also wish to control the 3D modeling market.
As an Engineer myself i can appreciate the effort that went into this model, and I hope this criticism is not too harsh.
The brackets printed well.
Sadly both of them broke at the layer lines when clicking the pins in place -.-
Requiring a reprint... (maybe it was the bad layer adhesion of the silk silver PLA...)
I do think the snap-in feature for the pins is too tight - In your video it almost breaks too...
An easy fix would be a long slot in the bracket vertically down below the pin bearing.
This would allow the Bracket to flex over a taller height and reduce stress in the material.
The thin geometry in this region is also not helping the cause - it can be double or triple the thickness, which would help.
The hood is printing well with the pre-ed brace, however the removal is quite bad.
I bent the braced back and forth 10 times, and they are still fused quite tightly into the model.
Only an Exacto blade was able to get them off, but the surface is quite bad, and it drags on the paper --> sanding required -.-
It shouldn't be my printer setup (new Bambulab P1s, 0,4mm nozzle, 0,2mm layer height, Basic Bambu Pla, all default preset in Bambu studio)
Slant-3d on youtube has some excellent tips on how to make perfect braces that are easy to remove aswell (45Β° box video e.g.).
The hood hinge is extremely dependent on accurate positioning of the brackets - this needs a much wider engangement surface to deal with tolerances on the mounting holes. For example having it captive on one side and a 15mm stick-out hinge on the other side could make the design better.
Lastly the Pen springs work, and the retaining geometry is well thought out.
I do however see a potential for a Print-in-Place compliant torsion spring.
This is not necessary though.
I hope some of the points are valid for possible improvement in this or future designs.
All in all I gave up on this model after reprinting parts with modifications, and them failing anyway.
I will be deg my own towel holder now.
With over 500 s, you are the first to report layer breaking. It may have something to do with silk PLA https://forum.bambulab.com/t/silk-filaments-seem-brittle/42849
I have taken notes of your critiques and I thank you for your insights.
