Traveling in the near future, I wanted a novel way to carry my daily medicine and supplements. After reviewing MANY of the existing options out there, I was left with two large issues. First I wanted to travel with at least 10 days of medicine with me ... not just 7 days. Second, I take a fair amount of vitamins and medicine daily and needed a larger pocket to hold them all.
Additionally, I wanted something that could not be opened or spill accidentally. It needed to be secure and sturdy.
STL FILES
I have created a 3-Day, 5-Day, and 7-Day version of the outer sleeve. I used 2x 5-Day sleeves for my 10 day travel.
I have created multiple. pill pocket 'carriers' based on how your medicine is spread out during the day. I only needed one large pocket, but realize you may have other needs. Here are the following configurations you can choose from:
- 1 large pocket
- 2 pockets 50/50%
- 3 pockets ~33/33/33%
- 2-3 pockets ~33/67%
The top cap is for the top of the stack.
The sleeve bottom and color rig are of the bottom of the stack.
SOLUTION NOTES
1) The pill pockets are stackable, connected on one side with a SS 2.5mm x 25 long socket head cap screw. Each stack of 2 pill pockets are separated by a 2.5mm flat washer. Each pill carrier also has a small TPU insert installed on the side opposite the screw to prevent unwanted rotation.
2) Once the pill pockets are stacked, a top cap is installed that will be used to secure the stack inside a protective sleeve. The top cap is held in place with a SS 2.5mm x 10 long socket head cap screw.
3) The outer sleeve slides over the top so that the ring on the top cap protrudes through the top of the sleeve. You can easily use a carabiner or similar accessory to prevent the sleeve from coming off until you are ready to open it.
4) For pure aesthetics, the sleeve has a bottom end cap and 'color ring' that are attached to the bottom most pill pocket in your stack. When the sleeve is pulled over this makes the whole assembly look like a solid unit, and the 'color ring' is simply a way to hide any imperfections in the stack vs sleeve height due to print shrinkage. The bottom cap is secured using a SS 2.5mm x 20 long socket head cap screw and some hobby glue since there is no screw on the opposite side. The 'color ring' also relies on some hobby glue to secure it as well.
ASSEMBLY NOTES & TIPS
1) Be patient threading the 2.5mm fasteners. I chose to model the threads, and they need a little pressure from your hex key to get started. Once started and threaded, be sure not to over-tighten. Once snug, the pill pockets should rotate with a little bit of resistance ... they should not rotate freely.
2) Installing the TPU inserts may require a little elbow grease ... I used a hopper to tap them into the holes above the socket head cap screws. Once inserted, they WILL NOT COME OUT. Only install once you are sure the fasteners are tightened to your liking.
MATERIALS
I used a GREY PLA METAL for the outer sleeve and sleeve bottom cap.
I used a LIGHT BLUE PLA for the pill pockets, top cap, and color ring.
I used a black TPU for the TPUI inserts.
