3D model description
A universal modular model airplane stand designed for 1:72 scale prop aircraft from tiny fighter planes to massive bombers!
I recently got back into building scale models. I built an academy 1/72 scale B-17E with the landing gear up and needed a stand to display it on. I didn't want to drill a hole in the bottom so I designed this stand as a less invasive alternative. Since I intend to build a lot more scale models in the future, I decided to make it a modular system so that I can use it to display any 1:72 scale aircraft. I have tested it with all the older models I had and it worked great for them too. I will continue to update this design in the future as I build more models, I intend to add arms that hold the plane at different bank angles as well as a larger variety of mounts/attachments for jets, high wing aircraft, rockets and so on. Anyone who buys/s this design at any point will have free access to all future attachments.
What this design currently includes
- 2 bases at different sizes relative to the other parts (medium and a larger more robust size for larger aircraft)
- 2 arms offering two different heights
- 3 mounting attachments for 2.7, 3 and 5mm holes
- 2 different sized universal mounts for low wing aircraft and bi-planes
- an attachment designed specifically for 1/72 scale B-17E models that provides more but still leaves room for the ball turret to rotate.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- All parts are completely interchangeable when printed at the same scale.
- This design works best of you print all parts at the default scale
- If you adjust the scale of the STLs in your slicer MAKE SURE YOU PRINT AT THE SAME PERCENT SCALING across all parts!
- This design works with a very simple slot together system and how tight it will fit will depend on your printer. All files are at the correct scale by default.
- This design will hold together with just friction and gravity but I recommend gluing parts together for more permanent displays.
- The universal mount will likely not work for any aircraft with an unconventional design
Please message me on this site if you have ed this model and have any issues with it model or any requests for specific attachments.
PS: I apologize for the poor quality of the models in the example photos, I am on a journey here, check back in a year or so to see how I have improved.
3D printing settings
This design will print better on an FDM 3D printer.
Most of these files will not require s but the mount attachments will.
All parts need to be printed at the same scale which I recommend leaving unmodified from what they are now.
Print at 0.2mm layer height or lower.
