Files dont work for me in Creality Cloud Slicer. Cannot even them, says abnormal files removed, requires repair

I've never used Creality Cloud Slicer. These files are quite big size, maybe that can be the issue. Anyway, try ing them again and unzip the folder. Sometimes files get corrupted while ing. Hope it helps!

When I import this into Snapmaker A350 Luban, I get an error message that it needs to be repaired. Is this normal? "Repair Model(s). Errors are detected in the imported model(s), which may cause problems during machining. Do you want to repair the model(s)? Model(s) with Errors: RattlesnakeCurledv1S.stl"

Hi! I haven't used Luban that much, I prefer PrusaSlicer. Even with the error, does it slice it? If it does and the gcode preview looks fine, then it should print well. If you are not sure you can send me the gcode to [email protected] and I'll check it 😉

Sometimes slicers are over-protective and don't like small details, thin walls and small mesh artifacts. And I know this design is a challenge in that regard.

cool thanks for the feed back the reason I asked while my dad was cleaning the brim off and was flexing the snake ever so slightly the vertical link side just snaped I'm thinking a layer didn't adhere.

love the print I noticed that I was getting flossing and I think that was a warning sign that some layers weren't laid don't properly and sure as could be i played with it a min or two it broke 3/4th of the way down :( . I plan on trying this with a none multi color filament because the solid stuff never gives me trouble, " Blame the printer and operator not the design"

Never heard of flossing. Do you mean stringing? I got rid of 95% of my stringing by using a filament dryer (there's plenty of humidity where I live). The remaining 5% is a matter of proper retraction settings and quality filament.

for some reason i cant get this file to slice in cura 5.2.1 when i attempt to slice it it tries to but it eventually errors out with "slicing failed with an unexpected error" this is with the curled up one
i don't have this error with your articulating dragon one

Rattlesnake-Curled_v1_S this is the one that would not slice but the otherone Snake_v1_Curled did slice

Some s have reported issues slicing big detailed models on some Cura versions since they released version 5, not sure why. It doesn't happen on PrusaSlicer, if that helps

hello do you give permission to sell these as completed prints? It would be extemely low volume in my mothers store. I am not interested in making a ton just maybe paying for a roll of fillament every now and then. thanks

I bought this model because it looks amazing.

But havent printed it yet as it seems far too fragile to me, especially last third of the tail.

I don't understand why there is a big hole and such a thin wall inside, only two wall lines seems far not enough to make something strong enough to resist a few moves.

Tried even at 125% scaling and it's not better.

Any reason explaining this weak design ?

Hi! If you want to check the strength and save time and material, you can use the slicer to separate the model in parts and print a few segments. From my experience, printed in PLA hollow with 2 perimeters it's strong enough for standard use. I also printed one at 120% in PETG and 3 perimeters, and it was able to withstand a 3 year old child.

Some filaments are more fragile than others, specially silk like PLA tend to have worse layer adhesion and are easier to break.

what settings should i use for the rattlesnake

It depends on the size and strength you want. By default I print it at 0.2 mm layer height and 2 perimeters with no infill (or maybe just infill for the head, about 15%). You can print it at 0.15/0.16 mm layer height for extra details, or increase the number of perimeters for extra strength.

Hi! It depends on how strong do you want it to be, and also the filament used. I've printed mine with PLA, no infill and just two perimeters. And that's strong enough to mess around. However, I printed one for my niece and I did it on PETG, 3 walls and some infill just on the head (I think it was 15%). Also, silk filaments usually have worse layer adhesion, so extra infill is recommended.

Hi there! My resin printer has been in a box for more than a year now 😅. However, Uncle Jessy did an awesome video with tips to print the Dragon on resin. The snake / rattle-snake is absolutely brilliant. I'm usually working with wood and only recently started 3D-printing - but the rattle-snake ended up with almost no need for clean-up - despite bowden-style printer.

Should I fix the mesh before I try and print this?

I fixed it with Blender, Microsoft 3D tools and PrusaSlicer before ing it. And depending on the software it still identifies some weird mesh errors... XD
I guess the mesh is too big.

However, it can be sliced without further fixing. I checked it thoroughly ;)

Hello! Exactly what filament color is the brownish rattlesnake that you showed in the video? Also, I'm new to 3d printing... If I'm using Cura, what are the 8 mm/s & 0.3 mm referring to, and how do I do it?

Hi! It is Mukha PLA from Fillamentum. The 0.8mm/s and 0.3 mm thickness are my recommendation for the first layer, to have better adhesion. Don't exactly where those settings are in Cura, because I use PrusaSlicer, but there is plenty of tutorials online. Hope it helps

I printed it with 2 walls and 0% infill. For extra strength you can print it with 3 walls. No need for infill, actually, because the segments are small and strong enough. Maybe just for the head, if you are using silk filament (because it usually has worse layer adhesion). 15 % should be enough ;)

Im using Cura to slice this amazing design but finding I cant seem to get it to slice. Started it again last night before bed and checked it after 9 hours and it hasnt finished slicing. Is there a trick or something for this design?

Hi! I can take a look, but I'm quite busy lately. Have you tried the latest PrusaSlicer version? It has an easy multicolor paint feature that detects the geometry boundaries. It's worth a try

Thanks for the fast Respond, to make it short I nerver really used prusaSlicer for anything because I don't have a Prusa printer. I searched for a Tutorial, but I couldn't find one wich works for me. I would really prefere to use Ultimaker Cura as a Slicer.

Ok, I understand. I've been using PrusaSlicer for all my printers for a while, and now I feel more comfortable with it. Regarding the snake, I'll try to do it this week, but I can't promise. If I send you just the head, will it be enough? You can replace it in Cura. That's way easier for me, as I don't have to export the full model. Give me your email and I'll let you know ;)

I've never really replaced anything in a Model, because I don't know how to do it. Glad to hear that, thanks for letting me know. I've opened the snakes' file, but I don't keep the separated geometry for the eyes. I would have to check if I have some previous backup file, but I'm afraid that modification will take longer than I expected. While working with meshes I have to repair manually some issues before exporting, so it will imply doing that work again. So I'm glad to hear you are trying with multicolor painting ;)

What is the smallest scale that the snake can be printed and still articulate?

I'm afraid there's no single answer for this question, because it depends on how well calibrated is your printer and the minimum resolution. The easiest way to check it is to separate the model into parts using the slicer, and delete everything but the last 2 segments. Then you can print them at different scales and check how small you can go.

Let me know if you do that, I'm interested in knowing how small can be printed on different printers ;)

50% its not working.. It prints really well, but with Pla the holders break from 1/3 of the snake onwards; in my opinion they are really too thin.

Hi. I printed your snake and it came out beautifully. But now i'm trying to print the rattler and it will not push filament when running the file. Tried thousands of times to re-slice and even deleted files and re-ed. Nothing works. I've tried other prints after this issue and they all work fine which leads me to believe it's a file issue maybe? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.
