3D model description
Oceangate's Titan Submersible with Launch Platform & Stash Compartment prints in three parts. The Main submersible and Tail section both print vertically and the Launch Platform prints horizontally. Best to print the tail with zero infill since the added weight makes the sub a bit tail heavy. The Tail fits snuggle into the Main section with a empty stash area inside the main body of the sub.
My designs are made for FDM printers but can be modified for resin - or let me know what you would need changed and I'll add a resin version if requested.
3D printing settings
I use adaptive layers 0.08mm to 0.16mm with Ironing usually on. S3D 5.1.1 is the slicer I used. First layer height set to 120% Top and bottom layers set to 6 each and 3 outer perimeters. I leave two empty layers above s, both my own and the ones S3D generates.
s are needed for the thrusters and legs. I built a ing arch and other custom s for both the Main body and the Tail section. Since every slicer can be set up differently, included are uned versions as well. I used S3D's aligned s at 40% for the Launch platform and sub stands.
Here is a video on how to add color changes: https://youtu.be/5vR1_HEw6Fs
I added color change commands into the G-code to print the sub's in multiple colors. The legs are grey, the body white, the face is silver, copper for the bolts and then either a blue or clear for the glass. The Launch in printed three colors with grey for the main body, silver for the on deck structures and white for the four floatation devices. To add the color changes to the S3D slicer I use the following code added on the Scripts tab under Post Processing.
{REPLACE "\nM117 Layer XXX, Z=" "\nM300 S2000 P100\nG91\nG1 X10 Y5 Z20\nM600 S500 P100\nG1 E-6.0 F1200\nG90\nM117 Layer XXX, Z="}; pause at layer, move head, play sound, change filament
M300 beeps to alert you of the color change. The G91 command makes the G1 move the extruder head using relative position moving the print head aside. M600 changes the color. Then I added a G1 retract to reduce any oozing. G90 goes back to regular position movements. Make sure you switch the TWO (2) XXXs for the correct layer where the new color begins.
Just change the Layer XXX to the layer you want the new color start printing on in BOTH places. <<< i.e. Layer 526 AND Layer 526
My custom s either come off directly or have a weak spot printed in them that will easily break with some wiggling and bending. The side thrusters' came loose using a pair of tweezers to slightly twist the column on each side under the thrusters then the lower part comes free from the pipes. The oxygen bottle is printed in halves to make removal easy, lightly twist it to break it free of the lower leg . The upper leg is a large arch with a very weak middle. Wiggle and bend the two halves to break them in half to remove. The tail section has a custom as well which came off easily by squeezing the round .
