When I load it into my slicer, it is on its side, with one point of the larger hex shape down. Should it be printed like that (with s)? Or is it supposed to be laid down (so one of the the largest surfaces is down)?

Make sure to print it with all the bodies touching the build plate - as shown in my video πŸ–¨οΈβœ¨
Also, please read the print settings carefully and apply them in your slicer. πŸ“šπŸ› οΈ

printed almost 24 hours...wow it was absolutely perfect until about 5 seconds of playing with it and it just started disconnecting from itself..
such a disappointment and waste of filament and time. won't try it again due to the time involved...hopefully everyone will read all the recommendations in the comments before trying to print.

This design can be affected due to the XY settings I mentionedβ€”each slicer can behave differently, so it’s super important to check the recommended settings before printing.

Bought the model a while ago and had some issues printing as seen in other comments now. I ed the creator and he went out of his way to help me resolve my issues even made the test files that are now added just to help me figure out what was causing my problems. It turned out it was the slicer settings not the model itself.
As NirNova98 said it was these 2 settings that helped me resolve all my issues :)
➑️ XY Hole Compensation
➑️ XY Contour Compensation

I would highly recommend trying it first with the test files to make sure your settings are correct :). Since fixing my settings i have printed 2 4 sided models and gave 1 to my boyfriend and 1 for myself. after a month both are still going strong after a lot of use. its very satisfying to play with and a great fidget toy if you always need to be doing something with your hands!

I’m sorry to hear about the issue with your print. Here are a few tips that might help:

Test Print First:
Check the recommended settings and try the provided Test_1.stl or Test_2.stl.

Slicer Adjustment:
If using the Anycubic slicer, set X-Y Counter Compensation to a higher value (~0.04mm instead of 0mm). This resolved similar issues for another customer.

I didn't have the test print option when printing it. I used a Bambu Labs PS1

The test files were added recently to help avoid issues like this. Before that, I recommended starting with the smallest hexcell to minimize potential problems.

I did test the model thoroughly before publishing, so I’d suggest playing with the print settings with the new test files (Test_1.stl and Test_2.stl) to see if it resolve the issue.

I had the same issue a few days ago. Used my Creality K1 SE and it looked great till I pulled it off the printer and each hex fell apart, independently.

I’ve noticed that some slicers have two options:
➑️ XY Hole Compensation
➑️ XY Contour Compensation

These settings interact with the small dimensions of the inner and outer walls, and they might be causing the issues you’ve encountered.

As you can see, some people haven’t had any problems, while others do, likely due to the slicer settings tied to these options (which may have slightly different names depending on the slicer).

I recommend trying the test files and adjusting these settings to see if it resolves the issue.

This model was tested multiple times before publishing.

Did you leave XY Hold Compensation "0" and XY Contour Compensation ".04"?

I do noty have such an option so i am not familiar with this setting,
But as i understand it you should set the 'XY Hole Compensation' to 0.1 and the 'XY Contour Compensation' to 0.4.

Play with those settings and test it with the Test_1/2.stl

I just purchased this and had the same issue! It seemed fine but then started to fall apart. The little tabs are to small for the slots. I am on a flashforge 5M. I am gonna try these settings changes (I do see them in their slicer) and see if that helps thanks so much for the follow up on this!!

@Nova, I think you have the values reversed. I did the above and got a solid block for the test haha.

X-Y hole compensation= 0.4
X-Y contour compensation= 0.1

The hole compensation at least in the slicer preview I can't tell if it's doing anything, the contour however very much does, it tightens or loosens the gaps. Fixed it!

What are the best values you’ve found?
I made some research for it and found out that it good for it to be as:
X-Y hole compensation= 0.4
X-Y contour compensation= 0.7

What happens if you set those two values to zero? Have you tried it that way?

So far I am still playing with them, hole compensation doesn't seem to impact but I can't be sure. Contour is default 0 in orca slicer and that resulted in a print that just fell apart (the little nubbs that go into the slots were way to small and just fell out of the track).

0.1 for contour was now to tight haha, playing around still but sofar contour 0.02 and holes 0.4 has been the best.

Thanks for including these tests files, makes testing this much faster!
