3D model description

Vertical takeoff or landing - VTOL - is among the toughest challenges in aeromodelling. This is especially true when you throw ducted fans into the mix. Fortunately, 3D printing is here to help. This three-bearing swivel module (3BSM) model mirrors the design used on the F-35B jet. When coupled with the right electronics and software, you can create ducted fan VTOL models of your own! 

** This is the same 3BSM included with the 90mm F-35B VTOL model. If you've already ed that, there's no need to buy separately! **

This product is a digital which includes:

• STL 3D model files
• Simplify3D factory files
• Pre-generated gcode files
• Build guide & suggested hardware list

What you'll need:

• An FDM 3D printer with:
• At least a 150mm x 150mm x 150mm build volume 
• A 0.4mm nozzle (recommended)
• A heated build plate (recommended)
• About 170g of filament (PLA+ reccomended)
• Medium CA adhesive & accelerator
• Tools, hardware and electronics - see build guide for details

Compatibility

The 3BSM design fits FMS 90mm Special Metal EDF units, but should be compatible with other similar fans as well. If your 90mm EDF doesn't fit, us and we'll design an adapter.

3D printing settings

• Most parts should be sliced with 3 perimeters, solid infill, and 4 top and bottom layers
• The pinion gears are intentionally sliced with a small layer height (0.1mm) and extrusion width (50%) in order to resolve the servo spline teeth
• Nozzle temperature should be 210-220 degrees with no cooling fan
• Bed temperature should be 50-60 degrees
• Retraction should be just enough to prevent stringing between features
• Extra length on restart should be just enough to prevent sparse extrusion at layer start
