Since my semi retirement as an architect I've been working from home for a number of years.

My favourite working position with my laptop on a stand is on my comfortable sofa with my feet on the coffee table. While working in this position I found it awkward trying to use the mouse on the laptop's palm rest as the area was far to small for comfortable use. Also the mouse often fell off this area when I went from Design Mode to Typing Mode!

I looked at various laptop attachable mouse pads but I couldn't find one that overlapped the laptop's palm rest area which also allowed for use while traveling, particularly on 'Trains, Planes and Automobiles'.

I decided there was definitely a need for a laptop attachable mouse pad that meets these needs and I designed the MouseDeck™ . I also obtained a GB patent for the design with the principal Claim being that the MouseDeck™ overlapped the laptop palm rest area which makes it unique.

I also entered the MouseDeck™ in the 2021 LOOP Design Awards under the Products/Office and Workspace Design Category and to my surprise won first place in this category.

I hold this award as a great honour when looking at the prestigious jury which included Maurizio Meossi (Associate Architect, Zaha Hadid Architects), Manuel Aires Mateus (Principal, Aires Mateus), Amit Gupta (Founder and Editor-in-Chief of STIR), Stefan Antoni (Principal, SAOTA), Fokke Moerel (Partner, MVRDV), D’Arcy Jones (Principal, D’Arcy Jones Architects), Ema Peter (Principal, Ema Peter Photography), Julie Payette (Co-Founder and Partner, V2COM), Amanda Ferber (CEO, Architecture Hunter), Simon David (Founder, OSD), Christiane Bausback (CEO, NP Industrial Design), and a host of other reputed professionals involved in allied fields of architecture and design.

The free basic version files of the MouseDeck™ is for a simple one piece 3D print when mounted on a laptop provides more that adequate mouse moving space also a space for resting the 's palm on. The MouseDeck™ is reversible for both right and lefthand s.

The paid for version files of the MouseDeck™ includes the MouseDeck™ base with Palm Rest/Mouse Dock slots, White Board slots and Swivel Multi-Holder slot, an ergonomic Palm Rest/Mouse Dock, a slot-in Swivel Multi-Holder that has a mount for your mobile phone, an accessory pocket for your keyboard brush and ear phones etc, a page holder slot that s reference pages etc and a write/wipe pen holder slot. There is also an option of attaching a WhiteBoard for making quick notes/sketches using the write/wipe pen. I am also including a template for the White Board Sheet.

The MouseDeck™ is held in position using standard Velcro Type pads that are available cheaply on the Net.

A low profile Hook Pad is mounted on the laptop which allows for easy closing of the laptop lid. The upper Loop Pad attaches to the MouseDeck™ and it's just a case of pressing the MouseDeck™ onto the Hook Pad (on the laptop) for use and quick and easy peel off for removal.
