3D model description
Since a while I wanted to get a semi trailer on the FMS ATLAS without compromising the crawling capacity of this fantadtic truck.
Then I had to find a way to let the 5th wheel move also from side to side.
Capacity have to be significant too then I made the trailer 410mm long and 115mm width. The 5th wheel is fitted as low as possible on the truck but the semi was to high for me then I lowered a bit the rear section to get the trailer wheels not so far from the structure.
The trailer structure is made from the swivel trailer you have seen, then it is 2 times the length of a swivel trailer.
Two rear axles are linked together with articulated leaf springs alowing rotation from the midel of the wheels. It is easy to assemble and give nice movement of the axles when offroading.
As you can see in pics the trailer allow to carry scx24 crawler if you want or any other stuffs. I think you can even carry beer cans to deliver to your friends.
Trailer has 2 parking feet you can retract and lock when driving.
Assembly is not very difficult, there are 3 main parts for the complete length you have to glue together. For the 2 front parts just glue and glue some junction parts and for the rear section there are 2 corners you can glue or screw. Screwing is not easy but possible as I did.
I suggest to fit first on all section the side s to locate correctly the main parts together and get side s aligned.
As usual you have to redrill holes to 1.2mm when a screw has to screw in and redrill to 1.5mm when a screw has to go through freely. Use M1.4 screws from 4mm to 12mm for the whole assembly.
You need a M3 x 8mm screw for the fitting point into the 5th wheel.
You have 3 different leaf springs but I suggest to start with the super soft. Others are really rigid
Tires are Jeep wrangler SCX24 tires with 55mm diameter you can find on Aliexpress and probably ebay too.
They are fitted on dedicated rims which are the same as for swivel trailers.
Concerning the 5th wheel, it can rotate in 2 directions which is a good improvement for crawling.
You need a M2x 20mm or any 2mm stud for the lateral rotation.
A locker is made with a M2 x 30mm screw or any 2mm stud. when lock you cannot release the trailer from the truch in any way, unless you remove this stud. I drilled the hole for this stud in the 5th wheel to 2mm then the screw or stud can be fitted and remove easily.
5 the wheel is in 3 parts to get a good sliding surface. The trailer receive a separate part you need to glue on with the side you printed on the bed of the machine in with the 5th wheel.
I had a lot of fun making this combo and I hope you will enjoy it too.
biggest part is 209mm long,
