Ellipse Elephant

So cute!

Ellipse Elephant has either a Bow or a Crown and the files are included for small and large sizes. Each color is a separate model for an easy multi-color setup. Variation for printing with single extrusion and filament swaps is also included in the post. Frame prints with the image for a complete design, but it is an optional model if a frameless version is preferred.

The Ellipse Elephant artwork was inspired by two new babies in our extended family. I've been thinking about printing wall art for a while and this was the perfect project to get started.

With only 4 colors, here are some ideas:

• Both parts of the background could be the same color
• "Body" and "Accent" could be the same color
• The outline, frame, and backing could all be the same color.

Small art with frame is 132 x 132 x 13 mm. Without the frame, small art is 120 x 120 x 11.75 mm. Large art with frame is 330 x 330 x 13 mm. Without the frame, large art is 300 x 300 x 11.75 mm.

Important Note: Scaling the model to other sizes should work fine, however scaling the "Backing" with the Hanging Hole would make the hole smaller or larger too and that could affect the ability to hang it with a nail.

The models are well organized. The regular ones are the smaller size and the "Large" ones are labeled. Separate sets for "Bow" and "Crown" designs, and the "Backing" and "Frame" work for either design.

For filament swap printing, use the "Single Extrusion - Raised Outline" models (Small or Large, Bow or Crown) instead of the regular outline model. The edges of this outline are not rounded for better swap printing. I printed with the "Bottom" and "Top" background models as the same color for a solid, continuous background. My filament swap print is shown in orange (0 - 11 mm), purple (11.25 - 11.75 mm), and black (12 - 13 mm).

I printed with 0.25 mm layer height, 1 perimeter (3 perimeters for bottom 1 mm of print), 4 or 5 top layers, 3 bottom layers, and 15% infill. No raft. No s.

The hanging hole printed fine for me without s. It bridged well across the top. I included a "Hole Test" model for a quick check, if desired. If you choose to use for the hole, be sure that it is only a small amount in the middle. Without a large horizontal gap for the sides, could be difficult or impossible to remove.

Thin Prints and Stand
The stand works well for the small prints if they are printed thinner than the full backing. This can be done by lowering the print into the bed in the slicer. I moved mine down in the z-direction by 9 mm for a total of 4 mm thickness in the final print. The stand has a gap of 5 mm to hold a print.

The stand is approximately 51 x 121 x 40 mm. I print the stand on its side (provided orientation) with 0.3 mm layer height, 2 perimeters, 4 top and bottom layers, and 20% infill. I use a RAFT when printing the stand to help with bed adhesion.
