Design is to be printed out in separate parts in the corresponding colors to eliminate the need to paint. This also allows everyone to be able to print this design regardless of what printer you are using.
Welcome to the Dark Side!
This has got to be one of the most difficult designs I have worked on, with the lack of what I would consider decent reference images. Creating the concept and adapting the overall feel of the two characters blended together in a way that looks decent and prints well was a challenge.
This is actually my third version of the design, where I angled the body up to a point where he is all but standing up right. I had to make a lot of adjustments to the tail and legs to be able to do this. I actually extended the legs up a bit to increase his overall height above my Mariolorian Design. This came out great!! I was finally happy with the size and height. It also opened up the opportunity to create a chest plate, now that the chest was easily seen. So, I whipped up two different versions of the chest plate as well. With all the small parts I thought it would be nice to print it out using the MMU capability of the Bambu. I am also including the Multi part version, if you don’t have the capabilities of MMU printing.
I scaled the design up 215% and adjusted the clearances between the parts in order to get a better fit so you can print out a larger version of this design if you wanted.
Printing…
Should be fairly simple as none of the parts require s
Assembly…
Make sure to print out all the parts and dry fit everything before glueing any of the pieces in place.
I always use PLA Gloop for the best results. It has a strong bond that chemically welds to two pieces of plastic together. Applying a few drops to one side then pressing the pieces together for a few seconds works for me. If you have access to PLA Gloop, I highly recommend trying it out.
I found it easiest to place all the small parts in place before any major assembly of the pieces. Adding the spikes to the arms, and wrist bands with a small drop of glue does the trick. Then adding the eyes, teeth and mouth pieces to the helmet center mask.
Assembling the main body can be a bit tricky if not done correctly. Be sure to glue the Tan left body to the Black left cape piece. Glue the right half of the tan body and black cape together as well. Then press the two halves together with the pins in place. Add the dark gray belly to the front to lock all the pieces together.
If you glue the tan parts together, and glue the black cape together. You will not be able to easily insert the tan body into the black cape.
With the main body completed adding the legs should be self-explanatory. Be carful assembling the arms and hands. The right and left are easily mixed up. Once again dry fit the arm pieces to make sure you have the correct pieces in order to get the hands in the correct position.
Recommended filaments
I experimented with a ton of different blacks. Most of the glittery or sparkly blacks have a blue hue to them. As I would like to have more of a red and black color scheme this didn’t work well. There are a few blacks that I found to work well.
Eryone Galaxy Black - looked great for the helmet, but the print quality wasn’t always the best.
Ziro PLA-Mystical Midnight silver produced the best look and quality print for the helmet
Bambu Matte Black or Bambu PLA Carbon Fiber - produced the best for the cape and other black parts
Ziro Silk PLA Silver Black – Works great for the silk black parts
Sunlu PLA + Gray - worked will for the dark gray belly plate, but I might switch this piece out for a glitter black as well
